Freezers have become a big part of most family's appliance repertoire. They are an enormous asset for large families and people who live in the rural areas, and tend to be further away from shopping. Freezers have evolved significantly in the last decade. However, unlike the refrigerator they have not been inundated with electronic control boards. A Freezer will run less than a refrigerator will provided there is a sufficient amount of food in the freezer to help maintain the temperatures. Therefore, when you buy a freezer, buy one who's size is appropriate for your needs. As you might expect, there are different types of freezers on the market today. There are chest freezers. These come in all sizes. In fact, there are now chest freezers on the market with an automatic defrost option. This means that you don't have to ever worry about defrosting the unit. I personally think that this is a great feature! However, if you prefer, they also come in self defrost models which means you can do it yourself. That's right. Self defrost does NOT mean that the unit defrosts itself. Confused yet? There is also the upright freezer. These also come in all different sizes and as I suggested before, it's best to buy one with a capacity that suits your needs. In addition, upright units can be either self or automatic defrost. Let my 30 years in the appliance business help you make that decision. Fill out this small questionnaire and I will e-mail back to you my recommendation for the best product for your family. |
